A fern carries out aerobic respiration because autotrophs and hetertrophs use cellular respiration, which aerobic respiration is a part of, to make carbon dioxide and water from organic compounds and oxygen. Aerobic respiration has two stages, the Krebs cycle and the electron transport chain and chemiosmosis. The products of the Krebs cycle are CO2, NADH, FADH2, and ATP. The products of the electron transport chain and chemiosmosis are H2O, FAD, NAD+, and ATP.

The Sporophyte is the underside of the fern and the Gametophyte is when the fern is all curled up.

The source of the transformation is the sunlight. The types of energy envolved are heat and chemical energy. The transformation itself occurs in the thylocoids in the chloroplasts of a plant cell.
